The European Tour rolled out their GolfSixes experiment today at the Centurion Club in Hertfordshire, England. The GolfSixes format is a radical attempt to raise the general appeal of watching and hopefully playing golf. As I've previously written this made-for-TV format will not likely be well received by traditional golf fans. I suspected I wouldn't like it and I was right. Based on Twitter today, it does appear to have found an audience. Reaction is a bit mixed however:

It will take some time to see just how well GolfSixes is received. If the ratings are good we'll likely see it again at some point. In time we may even see similar tournament formats introduced to local club events. Or this will go down in history as a bad experiment that will be laughed at for years to come. So far, though, the format appears to have done exactly what it was meant to do. Bringing some additional general interest to the game, especially among younger folks, must be a positive doesn't it?
Please just don't ever ask me what walk-on music I want for my entrance to the first tee.
